Interior

Emulsion is the most commonly used paint for interior walls and ceilings and there are three main types of finishes available:

Vinyl Matt - Vinyl matt emulsion gives a matt, non-shiny finish that expertly covers small imperfections on the wall or ceiling. This is the most popular type of paint so is the perfect option if you are new to painting!

Vinyl Soft Sheen - This emulsion provides a subtle soft-sheen finish and boasts durable properties that ensure it remains in the condition it was intended to for longer. It also benefits from being able to be lightly washed so you can remove unsightly marks.

Vinyl Silk - Vinyl Silk gives a high sheen finish that is the most durable of all emulsion paints. It is the perfect solution for high traffic areas, such as hallways.

For interior woodwork, the most common finishes are:

Gloss - A very hardwearing finishing paint, gloss is a shiny finish designed for woodwork and it reflects lots of light – so is perfect for paler colours.

Satin/Eggshell is used in the same way as gloss but is slightly less shiny and is increasingly popular, especially for interior woodwork. Both solvent-based and water-borne latex versions of gloss and satin paints are available. Latex-based paints are easier to apply and less prone to “yellowing” with age, but do not provide as high a shine or hardwearing a finish as solvent-based paints. Almost all gloss and satin paints are suitable for interior or exterior use. Some glosses are formulated especially for exposed exterior surfaces.

Eco Paints

In recent years, decorative coatings have been subject to extensive European legislation to reduce harmful Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs). This has forced a reduction in the number of solvent-based paints on the market and a shift to those with a water-borne polymer basis in order to satisfy the legislative requirements. As a result, paint manufacturers have carried out extensive research to ensure that the range of decorative products currently available are the most environmentally friendly and technologically advanced ever produced.

Many paints have subsequently been formulated to have low to zero VOC content to minimise environmental impact. Such ranges include Earthborn clay paints, Johnstone's Ecological Solutions, Dulux Trade Ecosure etc……. and are available in our stores.

Designer Paints

Designer paint ranges are those set out to evoke a particular style or a time period from the past. These can draw influence from architecture, nature, fashion or the personal taste of the creator. All of these ranges have been chosen with the greatest care and attention to detail to produce iconic colour palettes.

Some brands are made using techniques and ingredients that have been tried and tested for hundreds of years, others are manufactured specifically with the environment in mind.
