Woodcare

At Bannerman's, we offer a varied range of professional products for both interior and exterior use. We have a collection of interior products to protect against knocks and bangs, as well as exterior products to protect against UV rays, weathering and erosion.

The finish required will also have a bearing on the product chosen. There is a variety of traditional or 'breathable' materials in a range of clear or coloured translucent finishes that allow the natural beauty of the timber to show through. There are also opaque finishes which hide the grain but remain flexible and can be coloured to suit your requirements.

Woodstains - Decorative and protective coatings for interior and exterior joinery and woodwork. These are usable on hard and soft woods, are generally weather resistant, water repellent and microporous. Also they are not prone to flaking, peeling and cracking.

Preservatives - These products are designed to combat the effects of mould, wet and dry rot, as well as insect penetration, decay and blue stain. Wood preservers are deep penetrating and can be applied by brush or spray. They are generally colourless, but are available in a limited number of wood colours.

Varnishes - There are distinct categories of varnish for interior wood, floors and exterior wood, marine and fire protection purposes. Varnish comes in 3 sheen levels - matt, satin and gloss. They are available as quick-drying (water-based) and solvent-based. Clear varnish is best used over correctly prepared natural wood or wood previously treated with appropriate wood dyes.

Oils - There is a wide range of woodcare oils on offer: tung oil, danish oil, teak oil, boiled and raw linseed oil as well as many specialised wood oils, some of which are tinted in a variety of colours. Woodcare oils are applied to most types of wood both internal and external and penetrate the wood, offering hard-wearing resistance to water, heat and alcohol when used internally, and UV protection externally.

Polish & Wax - There are a number of manufacturers specialising in wax polishes for wooden furniture and stone and wooden floors. Wax polishes are available in paste and liquid form and can be applied by brush, cloth and spray.
